Yoh Asakura, a shaman from Izumo, who has come to Tokyou to train to become the next Shaman King, hopefully. At Tokyo, Yoh met Manta Oyamada, also a 13 year old who can actually see ghosts. They soon become good friends, and Yoh finds his ghost partner, a 600 year old samurai, Amidamaru.
Yoh's father was a shaman, his mother was a miko; his grandfather was a shaman, and his grandmother was an itako (spirit summoner). Yoh also has a twin brother, Hao Asakura, who later becomes his rival. Yoh, surprisingly at his age, has a fiancee, who was appointed by his grandmother. His fiancee is Anna Kyouyama, who is an itako just like Yoh's grandmother. Anna trains Yoh really hard so that he could be the next Shaman King. It may seems that she doesn't "love" him, but Anna really do care a lot about Yoh.
Yoh is carefree. He doens't like to be restricted by anything. He likes to listen to music and sleep. But Yoh works hard too to become a good shaman, and he learns very fast. He is determined and courageous, who will protect all his friends no matter what.
